Behind the scenes: Planning a Spring Gathering

Planning Committee Spring Gathering 2025 meets in Berlin EMEYF

On a cold Friday in November, four EMEYFers gathered in QuäkerBüro – these Young Friends, also known as the Spring Gathering 2026 Planning Committee, were in for a weekend of lairs, lengthy discussions and logistics.

The four Young Friends started their weekend with a delicious meal of soup and bread, before playing a card game (Don’t be a Dik Dik) and going to bed early to prepare for the weekend ahead.

Saturday dawned, sunny and cold, for the start of a productive weekend. After breakfast the four Young Friends retreated back into their lair – not to emerge until the planning was complete. Intense discussions on the most important topic started immediately – the venue of the gathering.

After discussion and discernment by the end of Saturday, a venue was decided – to be announced at AGM. In the evening, the four Young Friends became five as they were joined by Gathering Coordinator Daniel, who showed visible relief after they updated him on their progress – which by then included a theme and dates for our Gathering, all of which will be revealed in good time. After a long day shut in their lair (the office space of the QuäkerBüro) the four Young Friends sat down to dinner, before venturing out into the dark and cold Berlin streets to do some sightseeing.

After visits to the Brandenburg Gate and Reichstag, the Young Friends returned to their lair, stopping briefly to stock up on snacks for their travel filled Sundays.

After attending the local meeting and a final chat discussing next steps of planning, the Spring Gathering 2026 Planning Committee went their separate ways, until the next time they’d meet online.
