Communications Committee Chews Crusty Cinnamon-Rolls

Communications Committee (CC) is the group of people within EMEYF who take the
responsibility of making decisions and working for EMEYF between events. It is currently
made up of the Clerks, UK Treasurer, Gatherings Coordinator, Elders and Secretary.
Communications Committee meet throughout the year in person and online/hybrid to
make sure that the organisational side of EMEYF is looked after. All decisions that
Communications Committee make are accountable to the Annual Meeting/Meeting for
Worship for Business at Spring Gathering.

Rosie, one of the current EMEYF Clerks, reports from the meeting held in February 2024.

Dear Friends,

CC recently held a hybrid meeting in Westminster Meeting House in London. Here we had the pleasure of trialing our new delightful new hybrid meeting technology – the Meeting Owl 3. The aim of our meeting was to get together and bond as a team before Spring Gathering next month. It has been a challenge to feel united as a cohesive whole since the pandemic, and with such a lot of changes – after our last Annual Meeting we have four new members of our core team. We wrote poems by cutting out words that spoke to us from some printed out pages of Quaker Faith and Practice. We reflected on the topic of community and our desires for the meeting.

Transcript of the poem:

to enjoy our leisurely and useful meeting together.
in fellowship helping one another up
true significance lies in the tenderness
members of the meeting gathering in community.
we spoke of those unable to be present
those who also served the meeting,
Do we seek to share joys and humour as well as sorrows,
What do we know of one another’s live outside the meeting?
We depend on those whose lives are woven into ours,
we remember them in thankfulness
and Love

The other item on the agenda that we discussed at length was our role descriptions, and how the role functions are all interdependent. We shared meals, got to know each other, and even managed a very brief visit to the pub. A particularly enjoyable meal was had at breakfast on Saturday 10th February, of cinnamon rolls, orange juice, granola, (non dairy) yoghurt, and it goes without saying really, an abundance of tea and biscuits.

We are looking forward to bonding further as a team and to all the final preparations that need to get underway before Spring Gathering 2024.

In Friendship,
Rosie (co-clerk).
