Marcie is one of our current Co-Clerks. Co-Clerks keep EMEYF structures going and prepare for discernment.
As we are looking for a new EMEYF Co-Clerk, we wanted to hear from Marcie about her experience.

Marcie, what is the best part of your role?
My role really feels like a privilege, because I feel that I am upholding the community when we go through important discernment processes. I am really thankful that the community also upholds the co-clerks as we find ways to facilitate and record decisions that we hope will meet EMEYF’s needs. Connecting with the co-clerks who have served with me has also really enriched my spiritual experience and deepened sense of belonging in our community.
What is the most important skill you need?
It is so hard to choose one, as I think there are so many skills that are valued and welcome when serving in this role! I think the important part is that you don’t have to be good at absolutely everything in the role description. You need to be passionate about holding space for others and working collaboratively with your co-clerk, whose skills will complement your own.
What skills have you developed in your role that are useful in your daily life or work?
For me personally, holding space for others in this role is one of the things that has led me to feel called to pursue a career focussed on wellbeing and psychology. The skill of recognising others’ contributions and validating their emotions is something that is useful in building relationships and friendships in personal and professional life.
I’m someone who has always loved writing, and I think that love has grown in this role too. Writing and testing minutes has definitely helped me to develop my communication skills.
Why would you recommend someone to commit to this role?
I think this role is a wonderful way to put your values into practice and to feel spiritually connected to your work. I hope that you will feel as supported as I did in considering commiting to this role. Please remember that it is always okay to ask for help from Communications Committee, your co-clerk, former clerks and the community. I had never clerked before this, but am so glad that I took the opportunity to do something that has been so fulfilling.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience!
