Behind the scenes with an EMEYF treasurer

Peter is our current UK Treasurer. He is the person to talk to about EMEYF finances.

As we are looking for a new EMEYF UK Treasurer, we wanted to hear from Peter about his experience.

The best part of being a treasurer is connecting with members of the EMEYF community and being able to provide practical support and reassurance.  I love feeling part of the community, but find it helpful to have a bit of structure, and this role is good for that.  People are often nervous or embarrassed to talk about money, so interpersonal skills and being able to communicate in a clear and friendly way are important.  You don’t need high-level maths – as long as you are familiar with spreadsheets, the book-keeping aspect is very manageable. The role is a great way to get to know how the different parts of a charity work, which has been helpful for me working for a small charity.  By committing to this role, you are providing an important service to the community, and will also receive lots of support from Communications Committee, Trustees and the EMEYF Secretary.

This sounds interesting to you? Suggestions of names the Nominations Committee might want to consider are welcome – as well as self-nominations! You can find further information on free roles, the UK Treasurer Role Description and an Overview on EMEYF. Feel free to comment on this article or send us a message! We look forward to hearing from you!
